POTW #797
(Week of 8 April, 2012)

Sometimes when I'm deciding what to write about I'll just start making a list of things that have crossed my path recently, and look for common themes. The fact that it's Easter would at first seem entirely unrelated to my having read an article about giant stick bugs the other day. But:

Stick Bugs and Easter Eggs

When avoiding nasty predators
Be they tigers, birds or creditors
A strategy of camouflage
May keep you off the plate

Like a stick bug or a rockfish
If you're table-shaped or boxish
Or tie-and-argyle-socksish
Blend and keep from getting ate

Or if hidden is your curse
Then try the same thing in reverse
Take a cue from eggs at Easter
Paint yourself in flashy verve

A persona that's electrical
Treating camouflage as spectacle
Draws the eye of the observer
More so than you might deserve

But beware what you're exposing
As a sheep in wolfy clothing
There are hunters in the forest
Not particularly chivalrous

It may be a bit unsound
All this wanting to be found
When the Easter eggs are tasty
And the lizards are ovivorous
