The POTW: Verse Til It Hurts

POTW #722
(Week of 11 April, 2010)

Orange Disagreements

You've crossed the line, she testily said
Between the orange and the red
Just once I wish you'd see the way I see
Refusal to recognize obvious hues
Is enormously typical of you
And your heedless lack of visual empathy

He argued back, as he tended to do
Defending his colorful point of view
He mightn't have bothered had he only known
When it comes to observing the visual spectrum
Some of us simply have more to select from
A physical matter of photoreceptor cones

The Great Divide is not aesthetic
It's demonstrably gender-linked genetic
Some of us have a perceptual disadvantage
But there can be no diplomacy
Twixt tri- and tetrachromacy
Change the subject as quickly as you can manage

The POTW has been on hiatus for a few years now, but you never know when I might pick it back up again. If you use a blog reader of some sort, you can add the poem to it using This Link. Or, if you like, you can have the POTW sent to you by email every week (it's FREE). With our high-tech automated system, all you have to do is send an email to from the mail account where you want to receive it, and we'll put you on the list. You will receive a confirmation by email, although it may take a while as the automated subscription process is quite complex and arcane. (You can see just exactly how complex and arcane it is by taking our guided tour.)
