I was writing a poem about something else entirely when the phrase "subtle pirate" leaped into my head unbidden. I have no idea why it chose to do so.

The Subtle Pirate

The subtle pirate has no sabre
He prefers to use a spoon
Rationing marauding flavor
Hints of mayhem coming soon

Slipping past the guards on duty
Face-to-face by twinkling charm
Judiciously he picks his booty
Not enough to raise alarm

And in his wake the timbers weeping
Only slightly, just a drip
One small puncture slowly seeping
Three years later sinks the ship
